Porsche Design Group implements master data management with supplier link from crossbase

Ludwigsburg, 12.10.2010: Porsche Lifestyle GmbH & Co. KG, based in Bietigheim-Bissingen, is a subsidiary of Dr. ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart. The company's activities revolve around the luxury Porsche Design brand and the Porsche Lifestyle brand.

Central functions of the solution

The project

For the past two years, more than 40 users at Porsche Design Group have been managing over 40 000 items with the crossbase PIM solution for master data management. The aim of the project was to provide the product management, operations and sales / marketing teams with a tool that delivered seamless, high-quality support for a product development process involving more than 100 suppliers.

The tool had to be compatible with the accustomed practice of working in Excel. The solution also had to link in to the SAP system and provide in-depth evaluation tools.

The solution

For Porsche Design Group, crossbase implemented a customized PIM, MAM and cross-media solution based on the standard crossbase software. Items are created in a user-friendly product hierarchy in crossbase.pro, with a handy mass create function for colour and size variants.

In accordance with the business logic of the Porsche product life cycle, products are shown in the development, sales and archive phases. Detailed product features, images and text are added to each product. The comprehensive authorization system manages access rights down to field level.

The solution also includes a product maintenance program designed specially by crossbase for Porsche Design. With the help of an individual search screen, configured to match the company's organizational processes, and an individual processing screen, users can quickly and efficiently update the rapidly changing data. Suppliers are integrated into the data maintenance process by an intelligent Excel link.

The solution also incorporates centralized catalog range management and product version management. The company manages over 100 catalog ranges based on seasonal, thematic and country-specific factors. Product features are assigned a version number using validity rules. They can then be updated automatically on a defined date.

The most important data maintenance function is the option of displaying user-specific missing data with just a click. To use this function, mandatory fields and product responsibilities are defined and can be evaluated using the search screen.

The solution is completed by the Delta interfaces to SAP and the RMS point-of-sale system (for the German headquarters, the UK, France and the USA) run on a daily basis and a calculation module. A few inputs are entered and the system calculates dependent costs, prices and contribution margins.
