crossbase API server implemented for new fischer website

The API server is a universally applicable solution that creates many new possibilities. In addition, it is of course an investment that we want to use on a broad basis and will therefore continue to expand. Basically, I see numerous other application possibilities at fischer, for example an interface to nexMart is currently being planned.

Waldachtal, 16.01.2018: Established in 1948 as a local workshop-based business, the fischer group has grown to become an internationally active medium-sized company. The family-run business has always remained true to its roots: its headquarters are still located in Waldachtal-Tumlingen in the northern Black Forest, around 60 kilometres southwest of Stuttgart, in Germany.

The company is characterized by its ability to innovate, which has not only resulted in a constant stream of new products, but also in new lines of business. Today, the company's divisions are fischer Befestigungssysteme (mounting systems), fischer automotive systems, fischertechnik and fischer Consulting.

Central functions of the solution

Description of solution

The fischer website has been completely revised, and is now presented in its modern new design. It supplies comprehensive product information and services relating to fixing systems. It is targeted at tradesmen, DIYers, planners, structural engineers, dealers and the industry.

The new intelligent search, placed in the middle of the home page, helps users find the best possible result, as quickly as possible, for example: detailed technical product information, assembly instructions or approval documents. An error-tolerant search solution (FACT-finder) achieves relevant search results even if alternative spellings are used, if there are spelling mistakes, or if unusual search terms are used.

The navigation area has been completely re-worked and is now much more clearly structured. The product structure has also been reorganized to handle the ever growing catalog range. It has been designed from the point of view of the user, and is therefore perfectly tailored to meet customer needs. Filter options help the user find the right product with just a few clicks of the mouse, and they can also navigate to online shops that offer the found product.

The technology behind it all

The product data needed for the new web presence is now available, centrally, on the crossbase API server. To achieve this, we began by configuring the general and performance-optimized services which supply the extensive data for the different target groups and consumers in a structured way.

The structural basis for implementing the FACT-Finder was the creation of "dynamic search bars" in crossbase. This structural basis is used to display the relationships between technical attributes and facet attributes, model necessary relationships to defined search bars in the online structure, and map output-specific meta-attributes.
