Graphic Production with Adobe Illustrator
Produce Language-Specific and Dimensioned Graphics Fully Automatically
With crossbase and Adobe Illustrator, language-specific and dimensioned graphics can be produced fully automatically. Texts, translations and dimensions are entered via placeholders and files are generated for print and online in the required languages. QR or barcodes can also be produced.
The Benefits
- Convenient maintenance of content (texts, translations, dimensions) - independent of Adobe Illustrator
- Automatic generation of language variants and dimensioned graphics
- Automatic conversion of graphic designers for print and online
- Automatic updating when changes are made
- Uniform display of graphics in print and online
- Automatic generation of QR and barcodes
Graphic designers are used to illustrate product functions, diagrams or charts. The creation of graphic designers is a demanding and creative activity. Less demanding, but very time-consuming, is the adaptation of these graphics for different countries, languages, variants and media.
Typical creation of a graphic with text components
1. a graphic is created in Adobe Illustrator in ten languages. Texts are placed by hand and subsequent translations are inserted manually on the individual language layers.
2. the files for use in print (AI) and online (JPG) are then saved individually for each language. This results in a total of 2 x 10 files that need to be managed.
3. if the graphic itself changes or a text component is adapted, all 20 files must be recreated. The effort is even greater if the text component is used in many graphic designers and needs to be replaced.
Typical procedure for dimensioned drawings
1. a CAD drawing from the design department is prepared for use in marketing with Adobe Illustrator. The drawing is reduced to the external geometry or installation dimensions and line widths and formatting are adjusted.
2. the same graphic can be used for other product variants. The dimensions must be exchanged manually.
3. if the CAD drawing changes, the corresponding graphic designers must also be adapted in a very time-consuming process.
Procedure with crossbase
1. creation of the graphic
A template graphic is created with Adobe Illustrator, which contains placeholders instead of text components or dimensions.
2. maintaining the content
The texts themselves are created directly in the text editor, linked to the graphic and fed into the translation process as usual. If the graphic contains dimensions, these are maintained as features on the product. Maintenance is therefore carried out independently of Adobe Illustrator via the user interface in crossbase.
3. production
The placeholders are automatically replaced by the texts on the graphic or the dimensions on the product. All other derivatives for the languages as well as print and online are saved automatically. Production can be started manually or time-controlled.
4. update
If changes are made to the template graphics or content, production is repeated for all desired languages and formats. No manual intervention is necessary.
Initial preparation of data
If graphics are already available in AI format, they can be automatically transferred to crossbase. The texts are automatically extracted and replaced with placeholders.
QR code/barcode formats
QR codes and barcodes can be produced fully automatically with crossbase and Adobe Illustrator. Around 200 different types are available. It is possible to configure the dimensions, resolution, bar height, coding and file format.
