Why the introduction of a PIM system is a matter for the boss

PIM

Today, a modern Product Information Management system is much more than just a technical tool - it is the central lever for sustainable growth and business success, especially for medium-sized industrial companies. The days when product data management was purely an IT issue are over.

Today, PIM is much more than just a central storage system for product data. Modern PIM solutions have become the centerpiece for growth: They are not just for data management, but are the central platform for opening up new sales channels, increasing conversion rates and bringing products to market faster. At a time when growth is a top priority for company management, PIM and PXM represent the logical next step - and therefore a direct investment in sustainable corporate success. Those who rely on PIM create the basis for cross-channel, convincing product experiences and stay one step ahead of the competition.

PIM as the basis for growth

The quality and availability of product data is crucial to a company's success today. Customers expect consistent, complete and current information - regardless of whether they are searching for products in the online shop, in (printed or otherwise published) catalogs or in personal conversations with sales staff: A PIM system creates the basis for meeting these expectations. It centralizes all product information, ensures uniform data structures and enables the efficient maintenance, enrichment and display of data across all channels. The result: conversion rates increase because customers find the information relevant to them faster and more reliably and gain trust in the brand. Misunderstandings and sources of error due to inaccurate or contradictory product data are minimized.

Another decisive advantage: with a PIM system, product data can be maintained centrally and distributed to all relevant channels in a short space of time. This shortens the time-to-market and enables companies to react flexibly to market changes and bring innovations to the customer more quickly. At the same time, the professional provision of product data becomes possible in the first place: uniform data standards, automated checks and workflows ensure consistently high data quality and a consistent brand presentation - even internationally and across different target groups.

PIM and AI: the perfect combination for the future

Now is the right time to invest in a PIM system. After all, the next level of digitalization - the use of artificial intelligence (AI) - can only unfold its potential on the basis of high-quality, structured and centrally maintained product data. AI-supported applications such as automated text creation, translations, image recognition or personalized product recommendations require "clean" data as a basis. Gartner puts it in a nutshell in a study published in 2025: "No AI without IA (Information Architecture)" - without a modern information architecture, such as that offered by a PIM system, any AI strategy remains piecemeal. Only the interaction of PIM and AI enables companies to automate processes, address customers individually and develop new business models.

PIM: Strategic investment at C-level

The direction is clear: the decision for a modern PIM and/or PXM strategy is no longer just a matter for IT or marketing. It has become a central task for company management - an essential step for anyone who wants to future-proof their company. Only with such a strategic alignment can companies create the basis for efficient processes, high data quality, faster product launches and, ultimately, a convincing customer experience.
