Print-Publishing

Automated print production with InDesign without compromising on design

Automatically produced InDesign pages that you would never be able to see "from the retort" - with the crossbase print tools, this is easy to achieve. Using the flexible layout kit, you can produce not just structured print publications, but also creatively complex pages, such as artwork pages and editorial pages, with the aid of a database.

Complete InDesign integration

crossbase offers a complete integration of Adobe InDesign. Manual changes as well as completely freely designed layouts can thus be made directly in InDesign documents. They can then be stored completely and reproducible in the database. This enables the subsequent automated execution of updates, language changes and country adaptations.

Layout editor

No programming or scripting knowledge is required to operate the layout editor, so that layouters can quickly find their way around. Almost any layout can be created using the already configured layout rules. Functions such as area displacement and pagination control allow flexible layout templates to be created and reused for similarly structured pages.

Language change and book functions

crossbase supports all steps in print publishing. This includes changing language with language layers (language mutation) or with language documents (language variant), book functions for creating the entire document (with pagination, cross-references, type area control, number index, key word directory, price update) as well as preparation as a print-ready PDF file.

Table editor

All dynamic tables of a publication are created in the table editor. Tables can contain features, but also product images, texts and prices. Placeholders in table cells are linked to database contents. The number of rows and columns can be variably increased or reduced during production, so that any number of structurally identical tables can be created with just one template. From simple standard tables to complex matrix tables, all requirements are covered.

Document import

With this module, manually created InDesign documents with the contained image files, tables, texts and all layout information are quickly and easily imported into the crossbase database. Subsequently, content can be translated with the translation workflow and changing language can be produced fully automated.

Batch module

This module automates all individual and frequently recurring steps in the creation of publications. From multilingual table and page creation to pagination and type area control. For an even more efficient execution, production with the option "print server" can run parallel and time-controlled on several computers.

Book preview

This option assists you in assessing the production status. All pages are arranged by chapter and displayed as left and right pages in an overview. The break of page flow with single and double pages can be checked visually before the final print preparation is carried out.

Project management

Usually a whole team is involved in planning, producing and proofreading a print publication. This module is used to organize and optimize these processes. Employees can be notified to complete specific tasks on a specific date. The print publication status is clearly displayed throughout the process.

Print server

This module enables the distributed production of print products on several computers. Production clients report their availability to the crossbase print server, which distributes production jobs in parallel to the available clients. This can considerably shorten the production time of extensive publications.

Black-plate change inspection

This module checks whether produced page flows are suitable for the printing process with black-plate change. The system analyzes whether the color content of the documents or on the respective language levels is identical so that any deviations can be detected and corrected at an early stage.

Traffic light switching

The traffic light switching was developed for the requirements of layouters. Changes in data maintenance are reported and their effects on existing catalog pages are displayed in color. The layouter can view all changes in detail if required and recognizes at a glance which pages need to be checked and updated.

Catalog export

This module allows to export all media files and texts of a catalog, including all InDesign files and print-relevant media files. Open documents can thus be made available for the print process and archived. The exported catalog is stored in a language-specific directory structure.

Easy Print Publishing

With this module, users can easily benefit from the advantages of database-supported production. Texts and images are taken from the database and produced in Adobe InDesign. This means that pages with new text and image versions can be updated and translated into foreign languages at the touch of a button.

List production

This module enables easy automated creation of publications with list layouts such as illustrated price lists. InDesign templates are linked to data sources in Excel format via predefined rules. The module can be used without database connection and can therefore also be easily used in national subsidiaries.
