PIM / MS Excel

Translating continuous texts in the text editor. Changes to the original text are displayed in colour to assist the translator. Modified texts are shown in green, deleted texts in red and new texts in blue.

Bulk translation of short texts in tables taking the example of features and lists of values. The "Find translation" function quickly finds translations already produced.

Key data

  • The translation screens in crossbase.pro allow the user to view and translate different languages side by side.
  • All types of single-line texts can be translated, be they product names or the names of features.
  • With just one click, all translations for a selected text are displayed.
  • The translator selects the most suitable translation and inserts it into the translation editor.
  • Text can also be exported to an Excel file. The translator adds the missing translations in the Excel file and they are then reimported.
  • Multi-line formatted texts are translated in the WYSIWYG text editor, with the source text displayed alongside the translation. Changes from previous texts are highlighted.

SDL Trados (translation memory system)

Exporting text to be translated in XML for translation memory systems. The text status indicates how much translation is needed. The database "notices" when which texts were exported in order to control the translation workflow.

  • In the first stage of the crossbase.trans process, the text is exported to XML format for translation.

Online translation

Online translation in layout and checking the text flow of a catalog page using web-to-print technology based on the Adobe InDesign server.

Key data

  • The crossbase solution also allows you to translate InDesign pages online. The translator can check the alignment and page make-up in the target-language layout at any point in the process, removing the need for time-consuming proofreading later on.
  • Translation jobs are created using crossbase.trans and the selected translator is notified by e-mail that a new job is available.
  • The client can check the translation status at any time in the crossbase database.
  • Once the translation is complete, the translator saves it back to the online system.

MS Excel

Configuring the export of data for translation with MS Excel and determining how much text needs to be translated. The export includes both the texts that are to be translated and the pages produced, which are exported as PDF files.

Translation in MS Excel. The translator can double-click in a particular row in the Excel file to display the source language text, with layout, in the corresponding PDF file.

image

PDF file with invisible text keys which are used to specifically display each individual text in the context of the document.

Key data

  • After a page has been produced, a translation layer is created in the PDF
  • The translation layer is laid "invisibly" on top of the actual (German) text and the text key is assigned to it. This enables every individual text in the PDF to be uniquely identified.
  • A macro is embedded in the Excel file, which enables the translator to double-click in a row in the Excel file to jump to the matching place in the corresponding PDF, and displays that place in the PDF.
  • While translating, the translator can therefore display the source language text with layout, at any time, and translate it perfectly in the context.
